Protesters rallied on the streets of Yerevan on Monday shortly after Prime Minister Serzh Sarsgyan announced he is stepping down from his post.
In a written statement, Sargsyan addressed the nation by saying: “Nikol Pashinyan was right and I was wrong. There are several possible decisions in this situation, but I won’t take those. I am resigning from office.”
Protests have been ongoing in Yerevan for the past 11 days since Sarsgyan was nominated to lead the government by the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), soon after finishing two five-year terms as president.
